The height of the COVID-19 pandemic disproportionately affected those most vulnerable, with increasing mortality rates for communities with higher pollution exposure and in turn poorer health conditions. The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated the structural and racial inequalities in target communities and left the grassroots environmental justice movement and its people susceptible to increased harms. In response, BEA provided $260,000 of financial support to member organizations in addition to providing ad hoc technical assistance.
