A roadmap for resourcing frontline leadership and unlocking systemic change

What does real impact look like? It looks like frontline communities building power and driving environmental justice wins—when they have the resources they need.

BEA’s latest impact report, The Data Is In, offers compelling, data-driven proof and affirms what we know: strategic investment in grassroots EJ groups drives transformative change. Backed by a grant from the Bezos Earth Fund, the report evaluates BEA’s 2022–2024 grant cycle—supporting 89 frontline and grassroots EJ groups—and demonstrates how scaling organizational capacity enabled groups to deepen their impact and achieve secure wins.

Key findings include:

  • Grantee organizations nearly doubled their capacity in just one year.
  • Enabling outcomes—like advocacy, community institution-building, and workforce development—paved the way for measurable environmental justice victories.
  • Unrestricted, multi-year support created ripple effects that extended far beyond the life of a single grant.

This brief report is a roadmap for funders, movement allies, and advocates: it offers a strategic, evidence-backed guide to resourcing grassroots leadership and scaling equitable climate solutions.
